Ford Vedette Abeille [1952-1954] …
For 1954, the Ford Abeille [French for “Bee”] was presented at the Paris Salon in the fall of 1953. It featured far less austere trim and equipment, and was now available in 7 colors: Sheridan Blue, Dark Green, Clear Gray, Garnet, Beige, Valencia Blue and Black.
In its latest version, the Bee inherited the chrome grille of the Vedette. This gives it a less shocking look, especially as the car now offers a choice of several comely colors having nothing to do with the dullness of the first models.
When transporting 500 kg of goods authorized by the manufacturer, the Abeille adds a great deal of extra weight on the rear axle. Nevertheless, the suspension well accepts this unequal distribution and handling remains healthy at all times. Provided, however, that the shock absorbers are in good condition. The quality of the interior, and the soundproofing have obviously little in common with those of the Vedette, the seat upholstery looks bleak, even for a vehicle intended for transporting merchandise. The back of the Abeille has two hatchbacks, the top has two open positions and the bottom dropping in line with the load floor, lengthening it.
Significantly less expensive than the Vedette, the last Abeille interested not only the tradesmen or artisans, but its clientele were also recruited from families with limited means and that want the taste of softness and flexibility of a V8 engine for a relatively affordable price, almost FRF 100,000 less than the sedan.
